We are delighted to announce the appointment of Paul K.L. Yu, Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, William S.C. Chang Endowed Chair in Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Revelle College Provost as Interim Dean of the Graduate Division effective September 15, 2018.

Dr. Yu has been a member of the Electrical and Computer Engineering faculty since 1983. His research focuses on the development of optoelectronic and electronic devices that enhance the performance of fiber optic networks. His work on advanced semiconductor materials and components have brought about major advancements to high data rates for digital fiber-optic transmission as well as wide bandwidth analog fiber optic transmission.

In addition to his distinguished accomplishments as a scholar and researcher, Professor Yu has made substantial contributions in his service to UC San Diego. His leadership roles include service as Vice Chair and Chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Chair of the Senate Committee on Planning and Budget, Associate Vice Chancellor for Research Initiatives, Faculty Equity Advisor, and his current role as Revelle College Provost and Chair of the Council of Provosts. His breadth and depth of experience has provided Dr. Yu a keen understanding of undergraduate and graduate education that will serve him well in this Interim role.

We are thankful that Provost Yu has agreed to serve as Interim Graduate Dean, and look forward to his leadership of the Graduate Division in the coming academic year. An Acting Provost of Revelle College will be announced soon and the search for a permanent Dean of the Graduate Division will be initiated in the Fall quarter.
