SUBJECT:    Traffic Revisions on Villa La Jolla Drive

On Saturday, January 26th, paint crews are scheduled to revise traffic lanes on Villa La Jolla Drive between the VA Driveway and the pedestrian overpass between the School of Medicine and the VA campus. This project is part of pilot project to improve transit speed and reliability, conceived by the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) and executed in a three way partnership with MTS, the VA San Diego Healthcare System, and UC San Diego.

The project will reduce lane widths on Villa La Jolla and remove an underutilized dedicated receiving lane for right hand turns out of the VA Medical Center to provide on-street transit stops on Villa La Jolla. Capacity for through traffic on Villa La Jolla will be preserved and northbound motorists will be able to move freely past stopped busses at all times.

This revision is expected to reduce potential delay for busses headed to UC San Diego’s Gilman Transit Center via the VA by as much as 12 minutes at peak travel times.

This work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled. Please exercise caution as the campus community adjusts to the new traffic pattern.
