SUBJECT:    Appointment of Cherie Scricca as Interim Director for OPHD/Title IX Officer

I am pleased to appoint Dr. Cherie Scricca as UC San Diego’s Interim Director for the Office for the Prevention of Harassment & Discrimination (OPHD) and Title IX Officer effective March 4, 2019. Dr. Scricca has extensive experience in sexual-harassment and Title IX programs and has served as interim Title IX Officer at institutions ranging from small liberal arts colleges to large public research universities, including UCLA and UC Santa Cruz. She is highly skilled in both investigations and policy development and she will provide leadership in this important area while a national search for a permanent replacement for the OPHD Director and Title IX Officer is conducted.

OPHD's mission is to educate the UC San Diego community about issues of bias, harassment and discrimination and to assist with the prevention and resolution of these issues in a fair and responsible manner. OPHD works to resolve complaints of discrimination and harassment through formal investigation or alternative resolution; explains and clarifies university policies and procedures regarding discrimination, harassment and retaliation; collaborates with other UC San Diego offices in resolving complaints; and offers a variety of training programs and workshops in the prevention of sexual violence, sexual harassment and all forms of discrimination for students, faculty and staff.

Please join me in thanking Elena Acevedo Dalcourt for her service as Director for this vital program.
