SUBJECT:    CONSTRUCTION ALERT UPDATE – Mid-Coast Light Rail Transit Project: Evening Closure Of Voigt Drive For Additional Night - September 16, 2019

Project Location/Description:

An additional evening closure of Voigt Drive has been announced for by MCTC for the completion of construction work related to the Mid-Coast Light Rail Transit Project. The closure will begin September 16 at 9:00pm until 5:00am on September 17.

Immediate Parking Lot, Street Traffic, and Pedestrian Impacts:

A portion of Voigt Drive, between Campus Point Drive and the Scripps Hospital access, will be fully closed to public traffic during evening construction hours. Emergency vehicles will have full access to both UC San Diego and Scripps Medical Centers at all times and Flaggers will be present to direct and safely escort vehicles through the construction site when necessary. Parking lot P701 will remain accessible on Voigt Drive from west of Interstate 5, at all times.

UC San Diego and Scripps Medical Centers will remain accessible during evening construction hours. From Genesee Avenue, UC San Diego patients should use Campus Point to Medical Center Drive or the new Gilman Bridge coming from west campus to Medical Center Drive. Scripps patients should use The Scripps Hospital Driveway from Genesee Avenue. There will be no access to either Medical Center from Voigt Drive. Detours for Vehicle, Pedestrian and Bicycle traffic will be clearly marked when approaching the construction area.

In an effort to provide advanced notice to frequent travelers of the area, large electrical messaging boards will be placed along Voigt Drive one week in advance of the work, confirming the dates and times of the closures. To minimize confusion and alleviate traffic congestion during peak travel times, construction sequencing and to inform travelers of upcoming evening road closures have been carefully incorporated in the construction effort.
