SUBJECT:    General Campus Compensation Plan Trial – Extension Year 3

I am pleased to announce the continuation of the General Campus Compensation Plan Extension Trial. Year 3 of the four-year extension period will begin on July 1, 2020.

This trial program, currently in use at UC San Diego, UCI, UCR, and UCLA, was developed in partnership with the UC San Diego and system-wide Academic Senate. Like the well-established Health Sciences Compensation Plan, it allows eligible faculty to utilize external fund sources to support a portion of their total UC salary.

For General Campus and SIO divisions and departments which have chosen to participate in this trial program, the Lecturers with Security of Employment series and all Ladder-Rank and In-Residence faculty who meet the good standing and eligibility requirements will be members of the plan. Faculty are not required to negotiate an additional salary component if they do not wish to do so.

Faculty who wish to negotiate an additional salary component utilizing their own external fund sources generated by research, teaching or outreach activities (general funds, including startup, cannot be substituted for external funds to pay the negotiated portion of the salary) will be required to submit an annual proposal. For faculty members whose proposals are approved, the total UC salary rate for the period of July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021 will consist of the negotiated component plus the faculty member’s base salary (scale rate plus any approved off-scale). Summer ninths will be paid at the total UC salary rate according to standard summer salary policies.

Your divisional dean’s office sends a call for the 2020-21 GCCP proposals along with the request form. Faculty who wish to participate will be required to submit a proposal which must be endorsed by the department chair and divisional dean and approved by the Executive Vice Chancellor.
