|SUBJECT: || CONSTRUCTION ALERT – University Center Utility Relocation: Gilman Drive Temporary Road Closures|
The project will construct and install underground site utilities to
accommodate for future improvement in the University Center area on the
UC San Diego West Campus. Project scope includes constructing 16"
domestic water, 12" reclaimed water, and a 6" gas main in Gilman Drive
between Library Walk and the Gilman Parking Structure, as well as
constructing new 8" sewer and 18" storm drain in Russell Lane.
Work will begin on July 1st, 2020 and completed by December, 2020. The
daily hours of work will be from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Immediate Street Traffic, Bicycle, and Pedestrian Impacts:
Expect traffic delays on Gilman Drive between Library Walk and Russell
Lane due to a reduction of travel from two lanes in each direction to
one-lane (center lanes next to median) on East and West bound traffic
during construction. Traffic will be controlled by flag persons as
required during construction. Vehicle and bicycle circulation on Gilman
Drive will be impacted by closures, however the Gilman Transit Center
will remain operational throughout the project. Pedestrian crossings at
various intersections between Library Walk and the Gilman parking
structure will be intermittently impacted by construction. Please
follow signage and allow extra time while traveling on Gilman Drive at
these cross-street locations.
