ALL ACADEMICS, STAFF AND STUDENTS OF UC SAN DIEGO

SUBJECT:    CONSTRUCTION ALERT –Voigt Improvements Project – West Voigt Drive Single Lane Impacts

Project Location/Description:
UC San Diego has been involved with several important regional
transportation projects during the past several years. These projects
provide significant benefits to the campus, improving traffic and access
for visitors, patients, and the local community. As part of Caltrans’
North Coast Corridor (NCC) Project, the Voigt Drive Improvements Project
encompasses the widening of Voigt Drive, improvements to the Voigt
Bridge, and a realignment of Campus Point Drive. This project also
includes utility upgrades that span from UC San Diego Medical Center
through West Campus to the future Pepper Canyon Trolley Station. The
next phase of work on West Campus is the installation of a new domestic
water line along Voigt Drive, between the Voigt Bridge and Matthews
Lane.

Immediate Parking Lot, Street Traffic, and Pedestrian Impacts:
This construction effort will begin June 15, 2020 and is scheduled to
complete prior to the Fall Quarter in September 2020. During working
hours (7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.) Voigt Drive will be reduced to a single
lane; however, two-way vehicular and bicycle traffic will be maintained
with the use of flaggers. Please reduce speeds and allow extra time
when travelling in this area. Pedestrian access along Voigt Drive will
be maintained on the north sidewalk. Access to parking lot P510 and the
Campus Services Complex will also be maintained at all times. There
will, however, be future impacts to the Campus Services Complex in late
July/early August, which will be coordinated directly with the building
occupants.

The emergence of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) is presenting
unprecedented challenges for higher education and health systems
everywhere. The health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff is
our first priority, and we will continue to address issues relative to
this project as they are identified.
