Today, UC San Diego officially is launching the pilot of California’s new, voluntary smartphone exposure notification system (ENS), CA COVID Notify, across the UC San Diego community. This program is entirely voluntary, and I encourage you to consider joining this important program.
CA COVID Notify uses the ENS from Google and Apple to quickly notify you if you’ve likely been exposed to COVID-19, allowing you to seek medical attention and reduce risk of exposure for your friends, family and our campus community.
How to Participate
CA COVID Notify uses a privacy-first approach. Users may decide whether they want to share a verified positive test result with CA COVID Notify and then determine whether they want to share that result with other users. Location information is never collected, and user identities are strictly confidential. Neither Apple nor Google has access to user identity information.
How It Works
Once you opt-in to the notification system, CA COVID Notify assigns your phone a random ID. This random ID changes every 10-20 minutes so that it cannot be used to identify you or where you are. Learn more about how your privacy is protected on our Return to Learn website.
More information on CA COVID Notify is available at en.ucsd.edu.
Thank you for your commitment to keeping our Triton community safe. Together, we CAN help slow the spread of COVID-19.
