Text to 9-1-1 is Now Available
Text to 9-1-1 is now available in San Diego County, including UC San Diego.
Calling is still the fastest way to reach 9-1-1. However, texting may be the better option if you are:
hard of hearing, non-verbal or have difficulty speaking
in a situation where it's not safe to call 9-1-1 for help
having a medical emergency and cannot speak on the phone
Simply enter 911 in the “to” field and include in your text message the location and nature of your emergency. A dispatcher with the agency serving the area you are texting from, for example UC Police at UC San Diego, will respond with questions and instructions.
I encourage you to learn more about this initiative by watching this video from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department and to share the flyer on the crime reporting webpage highlighting this important information.
