2021-2022 UC Salary Program

Following the announcement by Chancellor Khosla of the 2021-2022 UC salary program on May, 21, 2021, I am pleased to share the details of the academic salary program for policy-covered academic appointees in 2021-2022. The academic salary scales will be increased by a general range adjustment of 3 percent (3%). The adjustment to the academic salary scales will be effective October 1, 2021 for policy-covered faculty and students and effective July 1, 2021 for other policy-covered academic appointees as noted below. Parity adjustments to the salary scales for policy-covered librarians and academic researchers will also be effective July 1, 2021. The regular peer-review merit advancement process for academic appointees will continue per academic personnel policy.

New salary scales will be posted on the Office of the President website as soon as they become available.

July 1, 2021 Adjustments:

Salary scales for non-faculty, non-represented academics will be increased by 3%. This includes Academic Administrators, Academic Coordinators, and Continuing Educators. Above Scale salaries and Off-Scale salary components for eligible academic series will be increased by 3%.

Full-Time Faculty Administrators will be eligible for a 3% merit-based increase.

Non-represented Librarian scales will be adjusted by 3%, effective July 1, 2021, to align with the salary scale bargained for represented Librarians.

Non-represented Researcher scales will be adjusted by 3%, effective July 1, 2021, to align with the salary scale bargained for represented Researchers. The Project Scientist and Specialist scales will have a 3% increase applied plus equity adjustments and smoothing, in alignment with changes to the represented scale.

Salary scales for represented academic appointees are set by the terms of their collective bargaining agreements. Below are approved contractual increases effective July 1, 2021:
  • The Librarian (LX unit) scales will be increased by 3%.
  • The Researcher scales will be adjusted by 3%. The Project Scientist and Specialist scales will have a 3% increase applied plus equity adjustments and smoothing as per Appendix A-2 of the contract.
  • Contractual increases for Unit 18 (IX unit) and Resident Physicians/UC San Diego House Staff (M6 unit) are still being bargained.
For detailed information regarding other represented titles, please reference the relevant contracts.

October 1 Adjustments:

Professorial and Teaching Professor (LSOE series) scales, Above Scale salaries and Off-Scale salary components will be increased by 3%.

Graduate Student Researcher scales will be increased by 3%.

As per their approved contractual agreement, the scales for represented Academic Student Employees will be increased by 3%, effective October 1, 2021.

Exclusions:

Appointees with by-agreement salaries, including visiting titles, are not eligible for the salary increase. Preuss teachers and counselors whose salaries are set per a Unit 18 contract side-letter are not eligible for the general range adjustment. Administrative stipends will not be adjusted.

Participants in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan (HSCP) and General Campus Compensation Plan (GCCP) are not eligible for mid-year salary increases. The covered compensation components (X and X’ for HSCP; scale rate, off-scale and/or above scale for GCCP) will be increased by 3% and the negotiated salary component will be reduced by the same dollar amount to maintain the approved Total Negotiated Salary amount for the 2021-2022 academic year.

Other Notes:

The July 1 and October 1 effective dates apply to academics paid on the monthly (MO) pay schedule. Increases for academics paid bi-weekly (BW), will be effective the first pay period following July 1 and October 1 for the applicable scale.

The changes to UCPath will be managed centrally by Academic Compensation. Department and divisional deans’ office staff will be expected to review resulting payroll entries and alert Academic Compensation if problems are detected.

I hope this information is helpful. Our goal is to ensure implementation of this salary increase in the most efficient and consistent manner possible. If you have questions regarding the 2021-2022 salary program, please direct them to academicpersonnel@ucsd.edu.
