ACADEMIC COMPUTING SERVICES FUNCTIONS
POLICY
The principal purposes of Academic Computing Services (ACS) are
as follows:
To operate and maintain all computing equipment required for
the support of the instructional programs at UCSD, exclusive
of that equipment which is managed by individual
departments.
To organize and manage the logical portions of the campus
data networks, their attachment to departmental networks and
computers, their connections to external services and their
central information services.
Provide consulting services to the users of its equipment
and services.
ACS also provides limited computing resources for unsponsored
faculty and graduate research. As a subsidiary purpose, ACS also
provides on a recharge basis computing and related services to
certain qualified departments for purposes which are not
primarily academic when this is consistent with the UCSD
Administrative Information Systems Plan and does not interfere
with the principal purpose of the Center. In certain
circumstances, such recharge computing services are offered to
organizations outside of UCSD for the purposes of research,
educational or public service work. Such computing must be
funded by governmental agencies or non-profit organizations, and
such work must not be of a classified or commercial nature.
