230-40 Academic Salary Scales has been posted to reflect the salary scales effective as of 10/1/02.
The University did not receive range adjustment funds as a result of the California state budget for fiscal year 2002-03, so the academic salary scales will remain unchanged from fiscal year 2001-02.

Environment, Health & Safety Organization Chart, PPM 516-0, effective 9/3/2002, has been updated to reflect recent personnel changes.
The organization chart for Business Affairs has been updated to reflect the new Chief of Police and Director, Auxiliary & Plant Services. The chart
is effective 8/1/2002.
The academic salary scales for the series Graduate Student Researcher
(GSR) and Postgraduate Researcher - Non-Student (PGR) have been revised
effective July 1, 2002. The Postgraduate Researcher - Non-Student (PGR)
is available in Supplement II, and the Graduate Student Researcher (GSR)
is available in Supplement IV. The revised GSR scale
expands the number of steps from six to ten. The revised PGR scale
expands the number of steps from 10 to 17.

Minor editorial changes were made throughout PPM 300-40. However special attention should be
given to Supplement D with the inclusion of an escalation rate and updated

All Manual Holders, departmental bookkeepers and other personnel involved in the Fiscal Closing process should become thoroughly familiar with this issuance. As in the prior year, there will be only two closing ledger cycles, the Preliminary and the Final. The deadlines for enteries to the Preliminary ledger are included in Supplement I. No departmental activity affecting 2001/02 will be allowed after the Preliminary Ledger cutoff dates.

UCSD Electronic Mail Procedures and Practices
The UC Electronic Communications Policy issued 11/17/2000 superseded the UC Electronic Mail Policy. However the campus Implementing Guidelines will remain in effect until Electronic Communications Policy Implementing Guidelines are issued. PPM 135-5, dated 11/17/2000 has been updated to
reflect this change. It was posted in March 2002.

Classification of Costs as Direct or Facilities and Administrative (Indirect)
Minor changes as of 1/1/2002 were added to Section V.B., Procedures, Treatment of Costs as Direct. Additional language was added to define the determining factor involved in distinguishing direct from F&A, and under which circumstances indirect costs may be treated as direct costs.

Budget Administration of the State Employee Benefits Program
This is a new issuance which set policy and procedures for the establishment and administration of the State funded employee benefits program budget. Effective July 1, 2001, departments are required to fund employee benefits paid by the campus related to incremental salary adjustments. Previously, departments were required
to fund benefits only on new FTE's.
