SPECIAL NOTICE: The UCSD Policy and Procedure Manual will no longer be issued to the Campus in paper form effective January 1, 1999. UC policy mandated that each campus develop, maintain, and publish specific procedures and practices that implement the UC Email policy.

UC Personnel Policies for Staff Members

Please note that the revisions below are the result of informal and formal reviews, effective August 1, 1999.

Staff Policy 12 Nondiscrimination in Employment and Staff Policy 14 Affirmative Action: The revisions to these policies incorporate changes made to the University of California Nondiscrimination and Affirmative Action Policy Regarding Academic and Staff Employment issued on April 1, 1999.

Staff Policy 46 Administrative Leave: This policy has been revised to clarify and simplify its administration, and to grant paid leave when exempt employees in career positions are subpoenaed to serve as witness in non-University proceedings.

Staff Policy 51 Reduced Fee Enrollment: This policy has been revised to clarify The Regents' intent that the fee reduction applies only if the employee's enrollment in University of California courses does not exceed three courses or nine units, whichever limit provides the greatest benefits to the employee.

Staff Policy 60 Layoff and Reduction in Time from Professional and Support Staff Positions: The trial employment provision of this policy has been revised to provide written notification to the employee when trial employment is required.

Staff Policy 81 Reasonable Accommodations: This policy has been revised to clarify that reasonable accommodation is required for employees when an existing disability at the time of hire becomes an issue at the time of reclassification or transfer.

120-9              Course Materials Fees

Minor changes were made to reflect change in office name from Budget Operations and Planning Analysis to Campus Budget Office. Additionally Exhibit B was revised in order to change it from 1998/99 fiscal year form to a generic form.

Change $500 to $1500 - 9/9/99 This change was made to reflect the correct dollar limit for defining equipment.

CALENDAR       Monthly Working Hours

The Monthly Working Hours Calendar has been updated for Fiscal Year 1999-2000 and 2000-2001. Per UCSD Campus Notice, dated 7/20/99, the UCSD Administrative Holiday for 2000 is March 27, 2000, and for 2001 is March 26, 2001. The December 2000 holidays are December 25 and 26 only.

Section 200 Personnel General

200-9       Supplement I      UCSD Contacts for Americans with Disabilities Act, effective 1/1/99

A campus notice was issued on February 9, 1999, Reaffirming UCSD's commitment to be Accessible to Individuals with Disabilities. The list of resource specialists listed in PPM 200-9, Supplement I, was updated effective 1/1/99.

Personnel Policies for Staff Members

30/Salary (HR-S-1)

A campus notice was issued on November 19, 1998 informing you of a proposal to eliminate the 15 percent limitation on salary increases associated with promotions and upward reclassifications for non-exclusively represented employees. Following a positive response from the campus community during the comment period, this modification has been approved effective February 1, 1999.

30/Sea Pay (HR-S-2)

(PLEASE NOTE: This procedure only applies to sea-going employees at Scripps Institution of Oceanography.) Following notice to affected employees, this implementing procedure was also modified effective October 1, 1998. Changes to section III(A) allow Captains and Engineers to cash out all, or a portion of, the accumulated Shore Leave when, due to operational considerations, it could not be taken off within a reasonable time frame. Changes also allow Assistant Marine Superintendents and Marine Superintendents to receive Shore Leave and Sea Pay Differential when sailing as members of the crew and acting in the capacity of Captain or Chief Engineer.
