THIRD COLLEGE PROVOST OFFICE April 20, 1993 KEY ADMINISTRATORS/KEY SUPPORT STAFF OFFICE MAIL DISTRIBUTION CONTACTS As part of the process of renaming Third College for Justice Thurgood Marshall, the UCSD and San Diego communities are invited to a forum on the life and career of this great advocate for civil rights and justice for all Americans. MEET THURGOOD MARSHALL: A UCSD COMMUNITY FORUM APRIL 27, 1993 7 - 9 P.M. Price Center Ballroom The Program will include welcome remarks by Provost Cecil Lytle, introductory remarks by Professor Peter Irons, Director of the UCSD Law and Society Program and a keynote address by Professor Janet Cooper-Alexander of Stanford Law School, a former law clerk to Justice Marshall. Professor Cooper-Alexander's remarks are entitled "Remembering Thurgood Marshall." The evening's program includes "May It Please the Court," a dramatic recreation of the Supreme Court oral arguments in Brown versus the Board of Education and "War Against the Constitution," the first public playing of the actual oral argument made by Thurgood Marshall in the Little Rock school desegregation case in 1958, accompanied by a slide-show of the Little Rock events. The audience will also see excerpts from "Thurgood Marshall: The Man" -- an award-winning television documentary on the life and career of Justice Marshall. As an adjunct to this program, Third College will hold an open house viewing of the 30-minute video "Thurgood Marshall: Portrait of an American Hero" in the Provost's Small Conference Room #134. The video will be shown every hour on the hour from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 27 through Friday, April 30. CL Cecil Lytle, Provost Third College |
