SUBJECT: Memorial for E. Jane Hett
Fifth College Dean of Students
Due to time constraints in this busy season, I am using
this rapid means of communication to fulfill the sad
responsibility of notifying her colleagues and friends that
Jane Hett died last Friday afternoon, after a valiant
struggle against cancer.
Jane came to UCSD in the Fall of 1983 as Assistant
Resident Dean at Revelle College. She joined Fifth College
as Resident Dean in time to welcome our first students in
Fall, 1988. Last July she was appointed Dean of Students at
Fifth College. Her professional contributions and personal
influence have been extraordinary, and she will be sorely
missed.
In celebration of Jane's life, the College will hold a
memorial on Wednesday, June 16, in the Faculty Club,
beginning at 3:30 p.m. Harriet Marsh is coordinating the
program for that gathering, and all are welcome. Any who
wish to speak briefly of their association with Jane are
invited to do so. Please contact Harriet in the Fifth
College Dean's Office by noon on Wednesday if you care to
participate in that way.
Jane's family wish it known that she and they have
established a perpetual endowment in the UC San Diego
Foundation to assist Fifth College students in achieving
their goals of studying abroad. In her memory, they invite
her friends and colleagues to join them in this effort.
Contributions may be payable to the UC San Diego Foundation,
designated for the Jane Hett Fund, and sent in care of the
Fifth College Provost's Office, Mail Code 0069.
