OFFICE OF THE VICE CHANCELLOR BUSINESS AFFAIRS December 6, 1993 KEY ADMINISTRATORS/KEY SUPPORT STAFF SUBJECT: Reorganization of Campus Support Functions In order to implement reductions in administrative support budgets and improve the delivery of services to campus departments, we have reorganized a number of departments within Business Affairs. These changes include the following: * A new unit named "Business and Financial Services" includes the Accounting Office, Bursar, Cashier, Materiel Management operations including Purchasing, Storehouse, Receiving, and Mail Services; and Business Office functions including business contracts, incoming purchase orders, and use of facilities, under the direction of Don Larson. * Risk Management and Workers Compensation have become part of the Environment, Health, and Safety Department under the direction of Martha Malter. * A new unit named "Auxiliary and Plant Services" includes the UCSD Bookstore, Upper Campus Machine Shop, Early Childhood Education Center, Graphics, Transportation and Parking, and Physical Plant Services, under the direction of Jack Hug. * The Personnel Department's name has been changed to the Human Resources Department, and reflects an increased emphasis on the provision of employee relations and support services, under the direction of Rogers Davis. * Telecommunications has been joined with Administrative Computing under the direction of Roger Talamantez. As a result of these organizational changes and accompanying revisions in administrative processes, significant savings will be achieved including the permanent elimination of two Assistant Vice Chancellor positions. In addition to the cost savings achieved through this consolidation, we intend to use this opportunity to continue to streamline administrative processes, and provide increased responsiveness to students, faculty, and staff.
