KEY ADMINISTRATORS/KEY SUPPORT STAFF
SUBJECT: Administrative Computing and Telecommunications (ACT) Reorganization
"Administrative Computing" and "Telecommunications" have merged.
This new organization is named Administrative Computing and
Telecommunications (ACT).
ACT is organized into five divisions, each headed by an Assistant
Director. The ACT Divisions are: Customer Services, Operations,
Systems, Wide-area Network, and Budget and Financial Services.
CUSTOMER SERVICES:
The Customer Services Division is headed by Acting Assistant
Director Ann Hanson. The Division is responsible for all ACT
Customer Relations and Service, Help Desks, ACT Mainframe
Training, publications, ACT LAN support, Telephone Installation
and Repair, Data Installation and Repair, and Telephone Traffic
Operations. This Division provides outreach to the client
community through training classes, newsletters, brochures, client
documentation; help desk software support, hardware support and
data communications support.
OPERATIONS:
The Operations Division is headed by Associate Director Jack
Wilson. This Division has not been substantially impacted by
ACT's reorganization. It is responsible for ACT's mainframe
computer, associated computer equipment and materials, software
releases, core system software tools, mainframe availability, core
system reports, report distribution, and maintaining on-going
computer operations 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Operations
evaluates new technology for the storage of very large amounts of
data. This includes hard disk, tape, optical storage devices,
tape robotics, etc.. The mainframe computer will be moved in 1994
to Torrey Pines Center South.
WIDE-AREA NETWORK:
The Wide-area Network is headed by Assistant Director George
Stepancich. The Division is responsible for UCSD's Wide Area
Network, Metropolitan Area Network, Cable TV, Interactive Video
Services, Router Support, Electronic Mail Support, Network
Operating Systems Support, Network Monitoring and Performance,
Network Planning, Network Projects and Inspections, Network
Engineering, Telephone Switch Operations, and Telephone
Information Systems. This division also tests and evaluates
hardware and software as it relates to Networking and
Telecommunications Systems.
SYSTEMS:
The Systems Division is headed by Assistant Director Mary Vlassis.
This Division is responsible for maintaining core administrative
information systems operating on UCSD's mainframe computer. The
core systems are the Integrated Financial Information System
(IFIS), Integrated Student Information System (ISIS), Payroll
Personnel System (PPS), and Departmental Systems (DS) including
Client Server development. The Division provides production
support and maintenance, core systems software releases, core
systems enhancements, and operational emergency support. Systems
also does contract consulting, database and data management
support and security and access management.
BUDGET AND FINANCIAL SERVICES:
The Budget and Financial Services Division is headed by Michael
Guerrero. This Division is responsible for managing financial,
administrative and personnel activities for the Department.
