SUBJECT: Proposal for a UCSD "Casual Dress Day"
Consistent with Human Resources quality of work/life initiatives, we are announcing the implementation of a "Casual Dress Day" for the UCSD community. "Casual Dress Day" would occur every Friday from July 1 through September 2, 1994.
This program is targeted to work environments where employees typically wear traditional business attire. Each Friday during the summer weeks, employees would have the option of wearing "smart
casual" attire, as long as such clothing would not interfere with or be inappropriate for the ordinary work responsibilities of that particular day.
While "smart casual" may be defined as shoes and clothing designed for informal or relaxed occasions, examples consistent with standards set for each diverse work environment should be provided by the Vice Chancellors or their designees. In units where dress standards are currently relaxed, there will be little or no impact of "Casual Dress
Day." However, in departments where the standard is traditional business attire, employees may welcome the opportunity to function in a more relaxed and casual atmosphere during the warm summer months.
