ALL AT UCSD

SUBJECT:    Open Enrollment

During the month of November, the University of California offers
employees the opportunity to review their benefit plans and make
changes in their coverage, or choose a new health care provider under
an existing plan.

Like many of our employees and their families, I use the excellent,
comprehensive health services provided by our superb UCSD faculty
physicians.

We are very fortunate to have such convenient access to UCSD's
outstanding faculty physicians, who are nationally renowned for the
high quality, state-of-the-art medical care they provide. UCSD is a
regional referral center providing the most advanced medical care
available for such common disorders such as cancer, heart disease
and neurological disease. Patients literally come from around the
world seeking care from UCSD specialists who are pioneers in their
fields of expertise.

Primary care and specialty services are conveniently offered on
the La Jolla campus, in Mira Mesa and in Hillcrest, with urgent
care, emergency care and hospitalization provided at the John M.
and Sally B. Thornton Hospital and UCSD Medical Center--Hillcrest.

The expanded UCSD Healthcare Network provides even more options for
employees and family members, with more than 1,000 physicians
throughout the county now affiliated with UCSD.

You can choose a primary care provider from the many outstanding
physicians who practice internal medicine and family medicine, and for
your children and teenagers you also have the option of selecting a
pediatrician or adolescent medicine specialist from the UCSD Center
for Child and Adolescent Health.

UCSD physicians and services are available to you if you are covered
by UC Care, Health Net, PacifiCare or Prudential. I hope you will
take some time to learn more about the choices available to you
through UCSD's system of health care during open enrollment.

In addition to benefits information, you should be receiving
information about UCSD Healthcare Network in the mail. If you haven't
selected a UCSD physician or affiliated physician as your primary care
provider, I urge you to review this material carefully and consider
making a change. You can call 543-UCSD (543-8273) for additional
information to help you make your choice.

Sincerely,

Richard C. Atkinson
