SUBJECT:    UCSD-Internal Search for the Dean, Division of Natural Sciences

As you may already know, Professor Donald Anderson has
decided to step down as Dean, Division of Natural Sciences,
at the conclusion of the 1993-94 academic year in order to
return to full-time teaching and research. Chancellor
Atkinson and I take this opportunity to thank Professor
Anderson for his dedicated service to UCSD as Dean since
1989 and wish him every success on his return to the
faculty.

Given Professor Anderson's decision, we are proceeding with
an on-campus search. With the help of the Academic Senate,
Associated Students, and Staff Association, we are forming
the Search Committee for the Dean, Division of Natural
Sciences, comprised of faculty, staff and student
representatives. At this time, applications and nominations
are invited for the open position. An overview of the
responsibilities of the Dean and prominent criteria to be
used in the selection process are appended herewith. To
receive full consideration by the Search Committee in this
critical search effort, applications and nominations should
be submitted by March 11, 1994. Send to:
