I am pleased to announce that The Board of Regents of the University
of California approved title changes for Dr. John Alksne, Dean of the
School of Medicine and Dr. Richard Attiyeh, Dean of Graduate Studies
and Research.
Dr. Alksne's new title is Vice Chancellor-Health Sciences and Dean of
the School of Medicine; Dr. Attiyeh's title is Vice
Chancellor--Research and Dean, Graduate Studies. No changes in
reporting relationships or salaries are anticipated. The new titles
provide systemwide recognition of the importance of these positions
and reflects the expansion of research activities on campus. Further,
the position of Vice Chancellor--Research brings greater academic
oversight to the research activities and facilitates policy
development and program coordination.
