OFFICE OF THE ASSISTANT VICE CHANCELLOR -
HUMAN RESOURCES
June 20, 1994
KEY ADMINISTRATORS/KEY STAFF (CAMPUS ONLY)
SUBJECT: | Introduction of UCSD's New Job Description Form |
It has been 14 years since the introduction of the current job
description form at UCSD. The Human Resources Department has now
developed and is introducing an updated job description form to comply
more closely with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and to
continue to improve the use of the job description as the basis for
valid, defensible personnel decisions.
Effective November 1, 1994, all job descriptions submitted to Human
Resources must be in the new format. The revised form #FO 2045,
instructions and a sample will be available in the storehouse after
September 1, 1994.
Ten workshops will be offered in June/July (see below). Each two hour
workshop is divided into two one-hour sessions. The first hour will be
an overview of the job description, the changes and why they were
required. The term "Essential Function" will be explained along with a
process to identify which functions are essential for any position. With
the implementation of the new job description form, a process of
"classified job descriptions" will also be established. Once this
process is in place, the Human Resources Department will no longer need
to perform classification reviews of previously classified job
descriptions, thereby shortening the timelines currently needed to
classify many positions that come in for recruitment. The second hour
will be providing detailed information and hands-on practice in writing a
job description; identifying "Essential Functions," skills, knowledge,
sensory, physical and mental requirements. Please bring a copy of your
own job description for the practice session.
Presenters will be:
Lori Chase - Classification/Compensation Analyst
Barry Niman - Manager, Campus Employee Rehabilitation Program
Pat Wong - Manager, Employment and Staffing Services
Managers and other staff members who work with job descriptions and
handle personnel functions in your department are encouraged to attend.
