SUBJECT: | Search Committee for the Vice Chancellor-Academic Affairs | Vice Chancellor Marjorie Caserio has elected to retire under the VERIP program.
The recruitment for her replacement has begun and I anticipate that a new Vice
Chancellor will be named by early 1995. Vice Chancellor Caserio has agreed to
serve until a replacement is on board.

Position Description - Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
The Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs is the senior vice chancellor and
principal advisor to the Chancellor on all academic matters of the General
Campus. These include instructional activities at the undergraduate and
graduate level, and research in departments, programs and interdisciplinary
research units. Reporting directly to the Vice Chancellor are: the Vice
Chancellor for Research and Dean of Graduate Studies; Associate Vice Chancellor
for Academic Planning; Associate Vice Chancellor for Extended Studies and Public
Service; Provosts of Revelle, John Muir, Thurgood Marshall, Earl Warren, Eleanor
Roosevelt Colleges; Dean of the Graduate School of International Relations and
Pacific Studies; Deans of the Divisions of Arts and Humanities, Natural
Sciences, Social Sciences, and the School of Engineering; University Librarian
and Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Information Technology. In addition,
the Vice Chancellor is responsible for financial administration of Academic
Affairs, academic facilities, academic affirmative action, and academic labor
relations and sexual harassment policy for the General Campus. Candidates must
possess a distinguished academic record, demonstrate a strong commitment to
teaching and research, have academic administrative experience in an institution
of higher education, and possess an understanding of and appreciation for the
principles of shared governance.
