SUBJECT: Payroll/Personnel System - Campus Rollout
We wish to announce that the Biology Department is now actively updating the Employee Data Base (EDB) directly through the Payroll/Personnel System (PPS). Biology is the first campus department to use PPS for this purpose and they have enthusiastically embraced this opportunity. We want to express our appreciation for their feedback on the implementation process, which will improve this effort for all departments coming on line in the future. Also, congratulations are extended to all the individuals who worked so hard to design the implementation process.
The next step in implementing PPS, Phase II, will include the Department of Surgery and the Library, followed by Phase III, the Medical Center-Human Resources and the Geological Research Division, SIO. The staged rollout to the rest of the Campus will begin in April 1995. A "phased" approach to implementation will continue to be followed to assure that adequate support will be available for departments as they begin using PPS in the update mode.
For the past five years, the office of the President has been developing a plan to design and implement a Payroll Update function to the Employee Data Base which would be distributed to Academic and Administrative Departmental/Core Units for their use. A policy development team, with representation from each vice chancellor area, was put into place on this campus at about the same time. The name of this group is the Payroll Personnel System Steering Committee (PPSSC). In addition, several subcommittees were formed to address specific items relating to the distribution of this Payroll activity. UCSD Payroll Division has been successfully using the new system for over one year.
PPS Update training classes are geared toward individuals who now prepare PAF's (Personnel Action Forms). Separate classes are available for individuals who will need to review completed PPS Update actions. During this transition time, the PAF training classes will be available as well as PPS Inquiry. To register your Department for PPS Update, call ACT at extension 49783.
