SUBJECT: Workplace Safety
In order to promote a safer workplace environment, the following policy
has been adopted to further clarify the kinds of behavior that are not acceptable at UCSD.

Any act of intimidation, threat of violence, or act of violence committed against any person on the property of the University of California, San Diego is
prohibited.
Intimidation: an intentional act toward another person, the
result of which causes the other person to reasonably fear for his/her safety or the safety of others.
Threat of an intentional act that threatens
violence: bodily harm to another person or damage to the
property of another.
Act of an intentional act which causes bodily harm, violence: however slight, to another person or damage to the
property of another.
No person shall possess or have control of any firearm, deadly weapon, or prohibited knife, as legally defined, while on the property of the University of
California, San Diego, except as required in the lawful course of business or as
authorized by the UCSD Police Department.
Any UCSD employee who is the subject of, or a witness to, a suspected violation of this standard should report the violation to the next-in-line supervisor who is not a party to the violation. Any emergency, perceived emergency, or suspected criminal conduct shall be immediately reported to the police department.
Any UCSD supervisor, manager, or person in authority who receives a report of a suspected violation of this standard shall document, investigate and report the suspected violation to the appropriate authority.
Any UCSD employee found to be in violation of this standard shall be subject to discipline up to and including dismissal, pursuant to applicable Personnel Policies or Collective Bargaining Agreements.

In order to better understand and to help prevent and manage incidents involving
threats of violence or intimidation, the "Workplace Violence Employee Handbook" has been developed and is soon to be printed. Copies of this valuable handbook will be available later this summer through the Police Department, the
Faculty Staff Assistance Program, and the Human Resources Department.
