As you may already know, Professor Peter Gourevitch has decided to step down
as Dean, Graduate School of International Relations and Pacific Studies, once his
successor is named, in order to return to full-time teaching and research.
Chancellor Atkinson and I take this opportunity to thank Professor Gourevitch
for his dedicated service to UCSD as founding dean and wish him every success
on his return to the faculty.
Given Professor Gourevitch's decision, we are proceeding with an international
search to fill the position. The Search Committee is seeking candidates with
distinguished academic backgrounds and scholarship who have demonstrated
leadership and academic administrative abilities. Duties include overall
strategic planning and implementation of: faculty recruitment and promotion,
student admissions and career placement, curriculum, degree and non-degree
programs, research programs, fundraising, external relations, resource
management and allocation, staff administration, alumni relations, liaison with
campus administration and other campus units.
I am pleased to announce that the following individuals have agreed to serve as
