SUBJECT: | One-Card System for UCSD | The Vice Chancellor - Business Affairs, recently established a campuswide
team with faculty, staff and student representation to investigate the
possible applications of a one-card system for UCSD. This system, once
implemented, will perform a variety of tasks resulting in better customer
service and improved departmental operating efficiencies. These tasks
might include, but are not limited to:
user identification low value university purchases
bookstore services vending machine uses
long distance calling facilities access
library services dining services
debit card uses student academic information access
accounts receivable inquiries
The first phase of the One-Card Team's mission is to identify all uses of
the current campus identification card. For example, in addition to the
card's quarter validation sticker and a library identification bar code,
various departments are attaching their own stickers to the front or back
of the card on an ad hoc basis. An example of this is a Plus Card sticker
affixed by Dining Services. It is important to ascertain all current uses
to incorporate them into the new system.
The next phase of the project will be the identification of all potential
uses of a one-card system. Consequently, it would be of great value if you
could contact me prior to April 1, 1995 if your department is currently
using the campus identification card for a special purpose or if you have
identified a potential beneficial use. I can be reached via email at the
Bursar's Office, hfisher@ucsd.edu.
Please be advised that the committee will be consulting with all current
and potential users and soliciting their advice and concerns prior to
moving forward with any recommendations. Thank you.
