OFFICE OF THE VICE CHANCELLOR -
ACADEMIC AFFAIRS
March 8, 1995
ALL ACADEMIC SENATE MEMBERS
SUBJECT: | UCSD Faculty Director of Programs Abroad Opening |
Applications by tenured faculty interested in serving as one of three Faculty
Directors of Programs Abroad are invited. One position among the three Faculty
Directorships is available, starting July, 1995. UCSD Faculty Directors
provide academic oversight and planning for the international education program
at UCSD. The major responsibilities of the Faculty Directors are:
(1) to select students to participate in the Education Abroad Program
(EAP) and to approve academic programs for students participating in
UCSD's own Opportunities Abroad Program (OAP);
(2) to coordinate integration of EAP/OAP course work into College and
Department academic programs; and
(3) to serve as ex-officio members of the campus Committee on International
Education and Education Abroad and as faculty liaisons with the
University Office of the Education Abroad Program at UCSB.
Faculty Directors of Programs Abroad play a central role in our international
education program, which is currently being strengthened and expanded. Past
Directors have found it highly rewarding to be able to assist students with
what has proved for nearly every student to be one of the most important
educational experiences of their undergraduate education. Experience in the
position can also provide key preparation for selection and service as a
faculty Director in one of the EAP foreign study centers located around the
world. Faculty with an interest in international education are encouraged to
review the accompanying announcement and to contact Mary Dhooge, Director, UCSD
International Center for further information (Extension 43730).
If interested, please apply by April 20, 1995.
