OFFICE MAIL DISTRIBUTION CONTACTS (027)

SUBJECT:    Proposed Personnel Revisions Family & Medical Leave

This correspondence serves to inform you that the final federal Family
and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) regulations went into effect this month.
In response to these changes, the Office of the President proposes
University of California policy changes to conform to FMLA
regulations. The revised policy statements are attached.

Please review the policies and send your comments to Denise Campbell
at 0922 or via e-mail at dcampbell@ucsd.edu by Wednesday, May 10,
1995.

To assist you in the implementation of FMLA regulations, UCOP has
developed prototype forms which are available, as needed, from the
Employee Relations Specialist assigned to your Vice Chancellor area.
Efforts are currently underway to make these forms available via
InfoPath.

Departments have the responsibility to inform employees of their right
to Family and Medical Leave. If you need assistance with policy
interpretation relating to FMLA regulations, contact your Employee
Relations Specialist. For payroll specific questions, contact the
Payroll Office.

When processing the Family and Medical Leave application, the note
section of the Personnel Action Form must include the beginning date
of the leave and the number of days used. For Payroll Personnel
System Update users, please make a note with the requested information
in the comments section.
