KEY ADMINISTRATORS/KEY SUPPORT STAFF

SUBJECT:    Staff Compensation Update

This message will serve to update you on compensation and classification
plans for Staff employees covering the remainder of the 1994-95 fiscal
year.

CLERICAL TITLE CONSOLIDATION PROJECT
The proposed Clerical Title Consolidation Project which was described in a
campus notice dated 3/9/95 has been approved. Effective 5/1/95 thirty-two
designated clerical titles were abolished, with an additional five titles
scheduled for deletion as soon as the classifications become vacant through
the separation or reclassification of existing employees. For employees
formerly assigned to payroll titles which were abolished, a new PAF will be
generated reflecting the new payroll title and title code. The conversion
will be handled centrally on 6/3/95 and PAFs will be distributed to
departments the week of 6/5/95. Affected employees will receive new
payroll titles only. There will be no change in job assignment, pay range,
nor pay rate. The new series consists of the following titles:

Clerk (4673)
Senior Clerk/Secretary (4672)
(blank) Assistant I (4724) / (blank) Assistant I-Supervisor (4728)
(blank) Assistant II (4723) / (blank) Assistant II-Supervisor (4727)
(blank) Assistant III (4722) / (blank) Assistant III-Supervisor (4726)

Class specifications are published on the HRWeb
(http/www-hr.ucsd.edu), located under the Classification, Compensation
& Records section which is accessible through On-line Services or from
InfoPath.

SERVICE UNIT RANGE ADJUSTMENT
Represented Service Unit employees will receive a 2.2% range adjustment
retroactive to 10/1/94 (9/25/94 for biweekly paid employees). The new
rates will be reflected in the 5/31/95 (biweekly) and 6/1/95 (monthly)
paychecks for the preceding pay period. Payroll anticipates retroactive
earnings for prior pay periods will be paid on 6/15/95. Employees must
have been members of the Service Unit on 4/10/95 in order to receive
retroactive payment. Security Guard, Senior Security Guard, Lead
Storekeeper and Senior Lead Storekeeper classes are now eligible for a
shift differential of .32/hour effective 4/10/95. Please note other
contract changes allowing out-of-class pay after 15 days, 4 hour minimum
call back and 2 additional premium paid holidays.

MERIT INCREASE RECOMMENDATIONS
A request for merit increase recommendations on Staff employees who were
originally scheduled to receive their merit increase on 1/1/95 is being
issued this week. Due to the six-month delayed implementation of 1994-95
merit increases, these employees will receive their delayed merit increase
effective 7/1/95. Represented Nurse and Systemwide Technical Unit
employees are excluded from the listings of merit-eligible employees given
the on-going contract negotiations between UC and CNA (Nurses) and UPTE
(Systemwide Technical). Recommendations are due back to Human Resources no
later than 6/15/95.

Pending the budget being made final, the amount and timing of the 1995-96
merit program remains uncertain. Therefore, we will not be conducting our
merit increase program for MAP, A&PS and Staff employees until the
systemwide budget and program guidelines are established.

SKILLED CRAFTS UNIT RANGE ADJUSTMENT
A 3% range adjustment for represented Skilled Crafts Unit employees will
take effect on 7/1/95.

If you have any questions regarding the above-mentioned changes, please
contact Judy Johnson, Compensation Manager at extension 40986 or via
electronic mail.
