SUBJECT: Modification of Genesee Avenue Closure
Due to the strong displeasure registered by UCSD and others, the plan for work on the north side of Genesee Avenue, east of John Jay Hopkins Drive, has been modified.
Beginning on Monday, February 12 and continuing for approximately three months, traffic on the north side of Genesee Avenue (i.e., westbound traffic) may be restricted to one lane in the area east of John Jay Hopkins Drive. This restriction will be in effect from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The restriction is to allow grading, road widening, and the construction of a retaining wall. Although restricted, traffic will still be able to proceed westbound; however, there may be delays due to the single lane situation and the construction.
The City of San Diego's project plans still call for the closure of the North Torrey Pines/Genesee intersection for several months (beginning approximately June 1). A detour for most traffic will be available using John Jay Hopkins Drive, north from Genesee Avenue. Additional information will be distributed as the date nears.
Please contact Milt Phegley, Campus Community Planner (ext. 45782) or Bob Johnson, Facilities Design and Construction (ext. 47729) if you have any questions.
