OFFICE OF EQUAL OPPORTUNITY/ STAFF AFFIRMATIVE ACTION July 2, 1996 KEY ADMINISTRATORS/KEY SUPPORT STAFF (Excluding Hospital) SUBJECT: The Neighborhood House Association Hire-A-Youth Internship Program This marks UCSD's thirtieth year of participation in the Hire-A-Youth Summer Internship Program. For those who may not be familiar with this program, its purpose is to provide work training positions for students, ages 14-16, who come from economically disadvantaged families. UCSD assumes the responsibility for providing training and supervision for each enrollee at no direct cost to the University. The tentative schedule for this summer calls for participants to start the week of July 22, 1996. The program will last a minimum of five weeks. As in the past, the final working day depends on fund availability and is determined as the program progresses. The students are paid minimum wage by the above agency and the work schedule can provide up to 30 hours per week of employment (Monday through Friday). In addition, in order to be considered an eligible work site, it is a requirement of the program that all supervisors who have requested students attend a Supervisor's Orientation. Please plan to have the alternate supervisor in your department attend this orientation as well in the event of your absence this summer. Updated information on this year's program will be provided by the Neighborhood House Association as well as the coordinators for the program on campus. This orientation will be held on Thursday, July 18, 1996 at 1:30 p.m. in the Davis/Riverside Room, Price Center. If you are interested in participating this summer in helping young people successfully enter the world of work, please complete the attached job application. If you have more than one location, please complete a separate form for each location. Please note that your application must be returned no later than Thursday, July 11, 1996.
