SUBJECT: UCSD Abridged Staff Affirmative Action Plan
Today, the Office of Equal Opportunity/Staff Affirmative Action sent each department on campus and at the Medical Center a copy of the UCSD Abridged Staff Affirmative Action Plan. I encourage you to read this plan by contacting your department contact person.
Developed in conformance with Executive Order 11246 as well as applicable federal and state regulations, this abridged plan covers UCSD's staff affirmative action program for the period between November 1, 1995 and February 28, 1997. Formally, this plan reaffirms the University's equal employment opportunity/nondiscrimination policy and its responsibility for implementation. Additionally, it informs managers and supervisors of their responsibilities regarding practicing equal opportunity and meeting the University's affirmative action objectives in staff employment.
One important component of this plan is a summary of The Regents' Resolution SP-2, which became effective on January 1, 1996. In highlighting the major changes in employment practices as a result of the resolution, this section clarifies the University's objectives and responsibilities in implementing its affirmative action programs. Other components of this plan include: identification of underutilized areas, development of availability data; establishment of goals; goals and workforce diversity progress; Vice Chancellors'/Director's action-oriented programs for meeting goals; policies of nondiscrimination based on gender, religion, and national origin; and the affirmative action plan for Vietnam-era veterans, special disabled veterans, and people with disabilities.
UCSD is committed to its nondiscrimination policy. To achieve and sustain equal opportunity for all, it is essential to have the support of the entire University community.
If you have any questions regarding the UCSD Abridged Staff Affirmative Action Plan, please contact the Office of Equal Opportunity/Staff Affirmative Action at extension 41923 or visit its web site at http://www-hr.ucsd.edu/~saa.
