Appointment of Elazar Harel, Assistant Vice Chancellor - Administrative Computing & Telecommunications

I am pleased to announce that Elazar Harel will assume the position of
Assistant Vice Chancellor for Administrative Computing and
Telecommunications on November 18, 1996.

Elazar Harel is currently responsible for campus-wide administrative
information systems at UCLA, including general ledger, procurement, accounts
payable, accounts receivable, student records, student admissions, human
resources, payroll, development, and others. He has led a number of
initiatives in the areas of client/server, web, and data warehouse
technologies. His experience has included working with relational and
distributed databases, smart card security devices, backbone network
technology, and project management systems.

Dr. Harel has published a number of papers on information technology, and has
been recognized for his work by organizations such as the Society for
Information Management and CAUSE. He received his B.S.E.E. from
Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, his M.Sc. from Tel-Aviv University,
and his Ph.D. in Management from UCLA. He has been a member of the Microsoft
Executive Roundtable and a fellow of the Society of Information Management.
