TRANSPORTATION AND PARKING SERVICES

October 7, 1996

ALL AT UCSD

SUBJECT:    Transportation Alternatives

According to the SD Chamber of Commerce, by the year 2015 San
Diego's population will grow by one million, an increase of 49%.
Vehicle emissions account for 64% of all air pollution, despite
improvements in vehicle technology.

UCSD's Transportation Alternatives offers commuters, money saving
programs and incentives, in an effort to reduce the number of
SOV's (single occupant vehicles). California's Rideshare Week is
October 7th through 11th. Stop by our table on the Library Walk
on Tuesday 10/8 and enter a statewide drawing to win valuable
prizes.

VANPOOLS - Students employed part-time at UCSD are eligible to
ride in vanpools! Seats are available from most SD County areas.
We are looking for riders and qualified staff drivers for a new
van from Poway, Rancho Bernardo and Penasquitos. Call Penny
Baxter at x40883, to find out about our low monthly rates,
incentives and seat availability.

CARPOOLS - This month zipcode matchlists will be sent to all
interested UCSD commuters. Call 534-RIDE to have a list sent to
your mail code or home address. Ask us about the incentives that
make this an attractive and flexible commute choice.

BICYCLE SAFETY CLASS - Our first in a series of eight classes
will be held from 11:30am to 12:30pm in 111A on 10/16. We are
proud to introduce UCSD's first nationally certified Bicycle
Safety Instructor, Michael Bradford. Bring your lunch, sodas will
be provided. Please RSVP to 534-PEDL prior to 10/15.

COASTER RAIL SHUTTLES - Tired of the traffic on I-5? Shuttles
connect the Sorrento Valley station to campus and from the new
Old Town Transit Center to the Hillcrest Medical Center. Call
534-RIDE for schedule information, incentives and access to our
Emergency Ride Home Program!
