ALL AT UCSD

SUBJECT:    Chancellor's Office Organization

Effective October 1, 1996, a number of changes have taken place in the
Chancellor's Office which I am pleased to announce to the campus community.

Susan Kirkpatrick has agreed to serve in the position of faculty
Associate Chancellor. Professor Kirkpatrick joined our faculty in 1971.
She has been Chair of the Department of Literature and Director of the
Women's Studies Program. She has been active in the San Diego Division
of the Academic Senate. Professor Kirkpatrick is in the process of
extricating herself from what she thought would be a sabbatical leave
and Muir Provost Patrick Ledden, who served in the Chancellor's Office
from 1979 to 1987, has agreed to assist us during the rest of this
  quarter.

Linda Williams has been appointed Assistant Chancellor effective
October 1, 1996 replacing Linde Nagata who has taken a leave of
absence to work and travel in Central America. Linda joined UCSD
in 1988 in the office of Capital Planning and Budgeting. Linda later
went on to serve as Management Services Officer at the Graduate School
of International Relations and Pacific Studies. Linda most recently
worked in the Office of the Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs as
  Director of Administration.

Professor Ramon Gutierrez of the Department of Ethnic Studies has agreed
to assist this office in a number of special projects. Professor
Gutierrez will also be an Associate Chancellor and will maintain his
post in the Ethnic Studies Department.

Associate Chancellor Nolan Penn, who has been primarily concerned with
issues of diversity within the campus community has agreed to stay in
that position until January 30, 1997.

Eileen O'Callahan will continue as the Executive Assistant to the
Chancellor managing and coordinating administrative support for the
Chancellor. Eileen came to UCSD in 1976 and has been in the
  Chancellor's Office nearly six years.

Linda Gregg will continue as Administrative Assistant providing overall
administrative assistance. Linda was in the payroll department at
San Diego State for eleven years before coming to the Chancellor's
  Office in 1993.

Please join me in welcoming the new members of our team and acknowledging
those who have contributed greatly thus far.
