KEY ADMINISTRATORS/KEY SUPPORT STAFF (Excluding Medical Center)
SUBJECT: | Holiday Schedule December 21, 1996 through January 1, 1997 |
Administrative holidays this year will be Tuesday, December 24;
Wednesday, December 25; Tuesday, December 31; and Wednesday, January 1.
Thus, there will be a twelve-day period (December 21 through January
1) during which four days (December 23, 26, 27 and 30) are scheduled
working days.
Individual units and departments that wish to be closed from the
end of the work day on Friday, December 20, 1996, until the beginning
of the work day on Thursday, January 2, 1997, may request approval to
do so. Department Heads' requests to close must be submitted to the
cognizant Vice Chancellor/Director for prior approval. Department
Heads are encouraged to discuss the feasibility of an eight-day
closing with departmental personnel. The following guidelines should v
be considered in determining whether to close an office:
1. Departments must maintain adequate staffing levels in order to
conduct necessary business or provide essential services.
2. December 23, 26, 27 and 30 are scheduled working days. If the
department wishes to be closed during those days, staff employees
must charge the time off to accrued vacation, accrued compensatory
time off, or voluntary leave without pay. Academic employees on
fiscal year (11-month) appointments must charge the time off to
accrued vacation or voluntary leave without pay.
Requests should state: (a) the disposition of work and services which
would normally be performed, and (b) the arrangements which have been
agreed to by departmental employees, including employees who have
indicated that they wish to work during the closure.
Questions pertaining to the status of employees during a proposed
departmental closing should be directed to the appropriate Employee
Relations Specialist in the Human Resources Department or to the
Academic Personnel Office.
