ALL AT UCSD

SUBJECT:    Fire Exits

In order to accomplish the teaching, patient care and research
mission of the university, it is important to maintain a safe
environment for all building occupants. The primary purpose
of the corridors in our buildings is to serve as the first vital
link in assuring you and your colleagues a safe way out during
emergencies.

It has come to my attention that numerous fire exit corridors
have started to accumulate equipment and materials which may
reduce occupants' ability to leave the building in case of fire,
earthquake or other emergency. While I realize there is an
acute shortage of storage space in many of our buildings, I am
asking everyone to take prompt action to remove material from
fire exitways.

I have asked the Environment, Health and Safety Office to work
with all members of the campus community in effecting a prompt
resolution to this problem. Please contact the University Fire
Marshal, Dick Benton, at extension 41062 for further information.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
