OFFICE OF THE CHANCELLOR
April 2, 1996
ALL AT UCSD
SUBJECT: | Retirement of Vice Chancellor Edward A. Frieman |
It is with a great sense of regret that I announce the retirement of
Dr. Edward A. Frieman, Director of Scripps Institution of Oceanography
and Vice Chancellor, Marine Sciences. Since joining the faculty at
Scripps in 1986, Dr. Frieman has been a tremendous force providing
vitality and direction to new research initiatives at Scripps.
His contributions over the past decade to the institution and to the
University have been critical in building upon Scripps's
world-renowned stature. The National Research Council recently ranked
Scripps first in faculty quality among oceanography programs
nationwide.
Following his retirement late this summer, Dr. Frieman plans to remain
on the faculty, working with his colleagues in support of research and
education programs.
Please join me in extending heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Edward Frieman
for his years of service to the University and to Scripps Institution
of Oceanography.
