SUBJECT: | Director, Office of Academic Support and Instructional Services (OASIS) |
I am pleased to announce that Dr. Patrick Velasquez has accepted the
position of Director of OASIS and will assume his responsibilities on
July 1. Dr. Velasquez has been a member of the OASIS staff since 1989
and has served as Coordinator of the Academic Transition Program and
the Summer Bridge Program. This summer he will teach the Contemporary
Issues course in Bridge. During the academic year he will teach TEP
116, the Psychology of Teaching.
Prior to his appointment at UCSD Dr. Velasquez served as Director of
the Chicano Awareness Center in Omaha, Nebraska, and also served as
Community Coordinator of the Omaha Teacher Corps.
Dr. Velasquez earned his Ph.D. from the joint doctoral program offered
by the Claremont Graduate School and San Diego State University with an
emphasis on higher education policy and student development.
Additionally, he holds an M.S. in Urban Education Administration and
Policy and a B.S. in Social Welfare from the University of Nebraska.
Please join me in congratulating Dr. Velasquez on his new appointment
at UCSD.
