SUBJECT:    Proposed 1996-97 Salary Range Adjustment for Student Classes (Assistant I-III)

Consistent with the proposed range adjustment for non-exclusively
represented Staff employees, a proposal is being made to increase the
salary ranges for the student classifications of Assistant I-III by
2.0%. In addition, the minimum of the Assistant I range would be
increased to comply with the recent legislation raising the federal
minimum wage to $4.75/hour. This would provide the following ranges
effective October 1, 1996:

Assistant I
minimum $827/month ($4.75/hour)      12%
maximum $1042/month ($5.99/hour)       2%

Assistant II
minimum $886/month ($5.09/hour)        2%
maximum $1335/month ($7.67/hour)      2%

Assistant III
minimum $1112/month ($6.39/hour)       2%
maximum $1669/month ($9.59/hour)      2%

Students or other interested parties wishing to comment on the
proposed ranges may do so. Written or electronic mail comments will
be accepted until October 23, 1996 and should be addressed to:
