SUBJECT: Appointment of Campus Counsel
Interim Senior Vice Chancellor Attiyeh and I are pleased to announce
the appointment of Ann Parode to the newly created position of Campus
Counsel, effective January 1, 1997. Reporting jointly to the Senior
Vice Chancellor-Academic Affairs and General Counsel of the Regents
James Holst, Ann will serve as the senior legal advisor to the campus
on a wide range of campus issues including institutional policy
development.
Prior to her appointment at UCSD, Ann was Executive Vice President,
General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary at San Diego Financial
Corporation, where she played a strategic role in long-range planning
and policy development. Before joining San Diego Financial
Corporation in 1975, Ann was the first female attorney to be hired at
the law firm of Luce, Forward, Hamilton and Scripps. In addition to
her professional achievements, Ann brings a breadth of community
knowledge and experience to her position. From 1994 to 1996, she
served as Chairman of the Board of the San Diego Community Foundation,
and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Girard
Foundation and the Burnham Institute. She was Founder of the San
Diego County Bar Foundation and served as President from 1980-83. Ann
holds a Bachelor of Arts from Pomona College, and earned her J.D.,
Order of the Coif, from the UCLA School of Law.
We are most fortunate to have Ann join us as a member of the campus
community and I hope you will join us in welcoming her to her new
position.
