ALL ACADEMIC EMPLOYEES AT UCSD (007)
SUBJECT: Proposed University of California Policy and Procedures on
Disclosure of Financial Interests Related to Sponsored Projects
The University of California proposes to issue Policy and Procedures on Disclosure of Financial Interests Related to Sponsored Projects. This Policy would replace the Interim Policy and Procedures on Disclosure of Financial Interests Related to Sponsored Projects, which became effective October 1, 1995.
Because this is a formal review, this email notice is being sent to all academic employees to afford you the opportunity for review and comment.
This Policy and Procedures responds to requirements of the U.S. Public Health Service (PHS) [including the National Institutes of Health (NIH)]and the National Science Foundation (NSF) that institutions establish written policies and procedures to assure that investigators submitting new proposals to these agencies disclose significant personal financial interests related to their proposed research. Institutional policy must also assure that any such disclosable interests will be appropriately reviewed and, where necessary, managed.
The proposed policy states minimum Universitywide requirements. Each campus or Laboratory may supplement these requirements, as long as the minimum standards described in the policy are incorporated into the procedure, and as long as such changes remain consistent with University policy and State and Federal requirements.
The proposed policy is available on-line at http://www-ogsr.ucsd.edu/research/financial-interests.html. An electronic copy in MS word for Windows, WordPerfect, and Rich Text Format or a paper copy may be obtained by emailing rrose@ucsd.edu or by telephoning x46655.
Please forward any comments you might have on the proposed policy to me at OGSR, Mail Code 003, or sworderd@ucsd.edu by Monday, June 16.
David D. Sworder
Acting Vice Chancellor for Research
