SUBJECT: | UCSD Hosts "Discover Days" | UCSD's Office of Admissions and Outreach invites prospective
students, their families, school counselors, teachers, and the UCSD
community to "UCSD Discover Days," a series of Saturday events that will
continue through November 8, from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The purpose of
these free programs is to give high school seniors and prospective
transfer students an inside look at life at UCSD, helping them narrow
their college choice during the November 1 - 30 University of California
application filing period. Discover Days, include Welcome and Information
sessions, campus tours, application workshops and opportunities to speak
with admissions counselors. Activities take place in the center of
campus, focusing on Library Walk, Center Hall and the Price Center.
The Welcome and Information Sessions give an overview of UCSD's
programs, services and its unique five-college system, as well as
information about the application process. Mae Brown, Director of
Admissions & Outreach and Richard Backer, Assistant Vice Chancellor,
Enrollment Management/Registrar, welcome visitors to UCSD on alternate
Saturdays. Each of the college provosts is hosting one of these Saturday
sessions by covering highlights about the campus, followed by an
informational talk by an Admissions Outreach Officer.
The student-led campus tours last one hour each and run continuously
each Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. These walking tours introduce
visitors to the sights and sounds of the university, while the tour guides
offer a wealth of information about the campus.
Separate workshops designed to help prospective freshman and
transfer applicants understand the intricacies of filling out the University
of California Application are held each Saturday at 12:30 p.m. Throughout
Discover Days, Admissions Outreach Officers are staffing Question & Answer
tables, where visitors may drop by at any time to ask individual questions
about the university.
"Discover Days provide an excellent opportunity for students,
parents and others to explore UCSD and ask questions about the admissions
process and the university in general," says Mae Brown, UCSD's Director of
Admissions and Outreach. "We invite everyone interested in the campus to
join us. These events are a unique way to highlight our top-ranked
university to prospective students and to the community."
