SUBJECT: New Workers' Compensation Procedures
As of January 1, 1998, new simplified procedures will be in effect when a work-related injury occurs:
*	The injured employee is now responsible for reporting the injury directly to the Workers' Compensation Office to receive prompt benefits. The injured employee is still required to advise their supervisor of their work-related injury and to keep the department apprised of their status.
*	Supervisors are no longer responsible for providing or processing claim forms. The Workers' Compensation Office will provide the claim form to injured employees and will be responsible for completing the employer's section of the form.
*	Supervisors should advise their injured employees to seek medical treatment. If the injured employee is incapacitated by the injury and cannot report the injury directly, the supervisor is responsible for reporting the injury to the Workers' Compensation Office.
*	The Workers' Compensation Office will provide a copy of the injury report to the supervisor. The supervisor should report to the Workers' Compensation Office any change in the injured employee's status. (Absences, modified work, etc.)
The new procedures are intended to simplify the current process and ensure that all injured workers are sent a claim form within one working day of reporting the injury. Departments will no longer be required to purchase claim forms through the UCSD Storehouse.
