OFFICE OF THE ASSISTANT VICE CHANCELLOR -
HUMAN RESOURCES

KEY ADMINISTRATORS/KEY SUPPORT STAFF

SUBJECT:    "SOURCE...UCSD Hiring System" Applicant Workshop Invitation

The Human Resources Department is implementing a job applicant skills
management system slated for implementation by the first quarter of
1998. Named "SOURCE," the system uses scan and recognition technology
to extract skills from job resumes and then stores the information in a
database. The new system should contribute to significant operational
improvements in the staff hiring process and is designed to offer
greater convenience and enhanced communication to University staff
seeking promotion and transfer opportunities at UCSD.

An important first phase in the implementation of "SOURCE" is
providing information on its workings to the UCSD community. One of
the major changes accompanying the new system is that resumes will be
used instead of applications. Thus, staff will need to learn how to
produce "scannable" resumes and become knowledgeable about the
registration process for "SOURCE."

To learn more about UCSD's new hiring system, including how to
register one time for future career openings, Human Resources has
developed a series of one hour workshops. Members of Campus Human
Resources will be available at upcoming workshop sessions to explain
"SOURCE" and review resumes. Since seating is limited, please call
534-2812 to RSVP.

Workshop schedule:

Monday, July 7  Price Center, Gallery B 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.

Friday, July 18   Price Center, Gallery A 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.

Tuesday, July 22  Price Center, Gallery B 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.

Thursday, July 31 Price Center, Gallery B 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.

career development opportunities as well as future development
