SUBJECT:    Search for Director - Faculty Relations

A search is underway for the position of Director - Faculty Relations.
Serving as the senior advisor to the Senior Vice Chancellor, the
Director - Faculty Relations serves as the campus resource for faculty
relations issues and administers the policies and procedures
pertaining to academic grievances, layoffs, and related legal and
personnel issues. The Director - Faculty Relations also assists the
Senior Vice Chancellor with administrative support for new academic
initiatives, such as the development of new colleges and new
intedisciplinary proposals.

I would appreciate your assistance in identifying individuals who have
demonstrated an appreciation for shared governance and consensus
leadership. It is our goal to attract outstanding individuals with
experience in academic administration who also possess the interest
and skills to work in a collegial environment.

Director - Faculty Relations
MSP III

The Director - Faculty Relations administers University policies and
procedures pertaining to academic grievances, layoffs and related legal
and personnel matters. Serves as senior advisor to the Senior Vice
Chancellor, faculty, department heads and administrators on faculty
relations issues. Serves as the campus resource involving the Faculty
Code of Conduct. Consults and acts as liaison with pertinent parties
to determine nature and substance of academic employment problems,
grievances and related matters, including seeking avenues for
arbitration and negotiation to resolve differences. Assists the
Senior Vice Chancellor with administrative support for new academic
initiatives (such as development of new colleges and new
interdisciplinary proposals). The position is designated
"Confidential" under HEERA.

Qualifications: Thorough understanding and working knowledge of
academic governance, instruction and research programs, and university
structure and organization. Appreciation for the principles of shared
governance and consensus leadership. Knowledge of State and Federal
regulations, rules, policies and procedures concerning academic
employment and personnel issues. Knowledge of labor relations and
collective bargaining for academic employees. Sound analytical skills.
Demonstrated negotiation, mediation and decision making skills.
Ability to work with all levels of the organization including faculty,
external agency representatives and legal representatives. Ability to
provide leadership in addressing complex and sensitive issues.
