ALL AT UCSD (Excluding UCSD Medical Center)
SUBJECT: | Proposed Telephone System Function Change |
As a result of recent technology upgrades to the UCSD telephone system, we
are planning to offer the campus community a feature which many of you have
been patiently waiting for--a permanent tone sender which will be active
during all calls. This will simplify the use of automated phone services
that require the caller to interact by sending digits from the telephone.
The new feature will affect all campus digital telephones, except for those
at the Medical Center. Analog phones are already configured to send such
tones automatically. The digital telephones currently require the caller to
first activate the tone sender by pressing a button called "Dial Add'l
Digits" (ETE) or by pressing 9. Once the new feature is implemented, there
will no longer be a need to press this extra button.
Once implemented, features presently accessed by pressing digits during a
call may need to be assigned to program buttons. These include 3 for
"Conference," 6 for "Call back," and 8 for "Common hold." This affects
phone models 180, 706, 707, 561, 562 and 601. If you are using any of
these features, please refer to the programming instructions for your
specific instrument in the campus telephone directory. The newer phone
models (661, 662, 203 and 204) utilize soft key buttons across the top of
the phone (marked F1, F2, F3 and F4) to access these system features, and
they will not require any key reassignments.
We would like to implement this change by the end of this month. Prior to
making the change we would like to get your comments or questions via email
to acthelp@ucsd.edu or by calling the ACT Help Desk at x41853.
Thank you.
