KEY ADMINISTRATORS/KEY SUPPORT STAFF

SUBJECT:    Promotion Project

The Human Resources Division of Equal Opportunity/Staff Affirmative Action
is pleased to announce that the Promotion Project has been funded for Fiscal
Year 1997-98 by the Staff Affirmative Action Training Program Committee.
This is an employee development program that promotes diversity at UCSD.
Since the inception of this program, 37 employees have been promoted.

All persons who wish to be considered for participation in this program must
submit a participant survey, scannable resume, and resume supplement.
Applicants who meet the criteria on the attached survey will be considered
regardless of gender or ethnicity. Qualification will be based on
applicant's current job classification and skill level in relation to their
job classification objective. Promotion Project participants are considered
for referral to hiring departments having openings in corresponding job
classifications, based on minimum job requirements, career interests and
objectives, and the feasibility of developing a suitable training plan.

Each year, the Promotion Project targets several job classifications. The
following classifications will be targeted this year:

Promotion Project Job Classification Objectives
Administrative Assistant II, III
Program Representative II, III
Administrative Analyst
Sr. Administrative Analyst
Principal Administrative Analyst I
Computer Resource Specialist II
Programmer Analyst I, II, III, IV
Staff Research Associate II, III, IV
Development Technician II, III, IV
MSO II, III and MSP Manager

Departments are encouraged to consider a Promotion Project participant to
fill their openings in the above job classifications. Qualified
participants from the pool will be matched with the open positions and
referred to the participating department. A participant who is selected by
the hiring department will be promoted into the new position and will be
trained for a period of three to six months. A formal training plan will
be designed to maximize the candidate's strengths and to develop their
potential.

Hard copies of the Promotion Project Participant Survey and resume
supplement may be obtained at Campus Human Resources, Torrey Pines
Center-South, Suite 370 or by copying the resume supplement from web site:
