SUBJECT: Relationships with Industry in Research and Technology Transfer
Dear Colleagues,
Last year, the Office of the President organized a system-wide "Retreat on
Relationships with Industry in Research and Technology Transfer" in Los Angeles to discuss various issues on this important subject. Retreat participants offered over 70 recommendations for actions during the Retreat. As a follow up to this successful gathering, we are glad to provide you with the following updates:
1.	The Proceedings of the Retreat are now posted on the Office of Technology Transfer Website at http://www.ucop.edu/ott/. Hard copies of the Proceedings, including the advisory group recommendations, can also be obtained from the UC Office of Technology Transfer in alameda;
2.	A summary of the initiatives and activities completed or currently underway in support of the advisory group's recommendations, and a summary of the seven priorities identified for attention in 1998 will soon be available on the UCSD Office of Contracts & Grants Administration Website at http://ocga.ucsd.edu/. Hard copies of the two summaries can also be obtained from the Office of Contract & Grant Administration; and
3.	The Chancellor and the Chair of the Academic Senate will be appointing a campus taskforce to review existing policies and procedures with a view toward recommending changes and building a better understanding of our policies and their rationale.
